(Nashua, N.H.) Host Rivier used an 11-goal first quarter outburst to pull ahead early and didn't let up on the way to a 21-10 victory over Husson in a men's lacrosse regional matchup Monday afternoon at Raider Field.
Joe Kelland (Watertown, Mass.) again led the Raiders (2-1) with a game-high eight points, posting a pair of goals and racked up six assists, while Eric Guinasso (Pelham, N.H.) notched a game-best five goals with one helper. William Ryan (Dorchester, Mass.) registered four goals – all in the first quarter – to go with one assist.
Casey Park (Londonderry, N.H.) and Sean Brady (Tewksbury, Mass.) chipped in with two goals apiece for the victors, with Park adding a game-high eight groundballs. Tyler Prendergast (Derry, N.H.) and Adam Fritchy (Wolfeboro, N.H.) had two assists each while Chris Pennie (Wilmington, Mass.) finished 19 of 25 in the faceoff circle and pulled in seven grounders.
Jacob Boothby (Kennebunk, Maine) led the Eagles (0-2) with three goals and an assist. Mitch Spurr (Poland, Maine) and Zach Glazier (Winthrop, Maine) posted two goals apiece while Blaine Miller (Bowdoinham, Maine) tallied a goal with three assists. Owen Richmond added a team-best five ground balls with 11 faceoff wins.
Jake Marchant (Tewksbury) picked up the win in goal for the Raiders making eight stops over the first 53 minutes, before yielding to Matt Cloutman (Peabody, Mass.). Nick Zavorotny (Concord, N.H.) made nine saves for Husson.
Rivier, which completed a season-opening three-game home stand, is off for the next 12 days before embarking on a five-game road trip which begins on March 18th at Curry with a Noon start time.
Husson opens its home slate on Wednesday against Wheelock at 1:00 p.m.
Rivier would convert on four of its first eight shots on goal in the opening five minutes with Ryan opening up just 25 seconds in on the first shot of the game, while Kelland made it 2-0 1:40 in, Guinasso converted at the 3:07 mark and Kelland grabbed his second at 4:50.
In all, Rivier outshot the visitors 23-0 in the frame with Ryan netting four, Guinasso scoring three, and both Brady and Park netting one each.
Isaiah Arteaga (West Hartford, Conn.), Park and Brady added second period scores for a 14-0 lead at the break.
Husson began to get back on track in the third, outscoring the hosts 5-4 and added five more in the fourth. Boothby picked up two in the third, while Guinasso countered with two more in the same frame.
In all, Rivier controlled ground balls (60-39), face offs (24-11) and clears (12-10) and finished with a 48-25 total shots advantage (30-18 on goal).
