(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Women's Volleyball team improved to 2-0 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference this evening with a clean 3-0 win over visiting Norwich University at the Muldoon Gymnasium. The win send the Raiders to an overall record of 7-5 (2-0 GNAC) while the Cadets fall to 2-6 overall, 0-4 against conference competition.
Rivier used set scores of 25-13, 25-18 and 25-15 to win their 14th consecutive contest and extend their set winning streak to 29 consecutive sets over the Cadets.
Junior Jessica Whyte (Plymouth, Mass.) along with freshman Sydney Racevicius (Woodbury, Conn.) led the way offensively for the Raiders as they reach recorded the game-high of 11 kills. Whyte also swung at a .556 clip while chipping in with four total blocks and classmate Taylor Dunster (Sutton, Mass.) added five kills and a .357 hitting percentage on the night. Senior setter Hayley Macken (Clifton Park, N.Y.) directed the offense with 27 assists while contributing defensively with three total blocks and eight digs. Senior Taylor White (Dunstable, Mass.) controlled the back line as she scooped up a team-high 11 digs and freshman Avery Pollard (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) helped with five digs and three total blocks.
Norwich was guided by juniors Michele Zummo (Highland Mills, N.Y.), who had eight kills and Marissa Perrotti (Moultonborough, N.H.) who helped with four kills offensively. Senior setter Emily Oliver (Sagamore Hills, Ohio) dished out 14 assists and picked up 11 digs over the three set match and freshman Olivia Brown (Rye, N.H.) recorded the game-high of 14 digs in the loss.
Next up for the Raiders will be a GNAC Tri-Match in New London, New Hampshire hosted by Colby-Sawyer. Rivier will take on the Chargers at 11am followed by a 1pm game time against Lasell College. Norwich will also be in Tri-Match action on Saturday as they travel down to New London, Connecticut for a pair of matches with host Mitchell College and New England College.
