Raiders Comes From Behind to Sweep Pine Manor

Nashua, NH – Rivier College had a huge come from behind victory in game two of today's GNAC double header against Pine Manor College to sweep the Gators with an 8-2 win in game one and a 15-14 win in game 2. The wins improves Rivier to 8-6 in GNAC play while the two losses drop Pine Manor to 8-10 in the GNAC.

The Raiders controlled the first game by early, going up 3-0 after 1 inning and never trailing again. Rivier scored 8 runs on 17 hits in the game, giving the loss to Pine Manor starting pitcher Tara Doehler (Lakeville, MA). Hillary Tarr (North Easton, MA) picked up the win for Rivier, giving up 2 runs on two hits with 2 strikeouts.

Game two started as a blow out in favor of the visiting Gators of Pine Manor. The away team went up 8-3 after just two innings and made it 11-3 after the top of the fourth. Rivier put up three runs themselves in the bottom of the fourth, but Pine Manor put up another three runs in the top of the sixth. In jeopardy of having the game stopped due to the mercy rule the Raiders needed to score at least 1 run in the bottom of the sixth and instead came up with 5 scores to bring the score to 14-11. Rivier help the Gators in the seventh and set the stage for the dramatic finish.

Nicole Peacock (Warwick, RI) led off the inning with a triple down the left field line and a single by Catherine Roy (Dracut, MA) drove her home. A pop out by Amandra Ryan (W. Bridgewater, MA) was the first out of the inning, but a wild pitch, followed by Marissa Mercier (N. Smithfield, RI) getting hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second. A triple by Amanda Thornton (Hanover, MA) cleared the bases and tied the game at 14-14 and set the stage for Karen Waterman (Rutland, VT) to win the game. Waterman hit a single to left field to drive in Thornton and complete the comeback, giving the Raiders a 15-14 victory.

Rivier will host Johnson & Wales tomorrow at 3:30 pm in another GNAC double header, please double check the Raiders website for any changes to game time.
