Softball rolls to victory over Newbury

Weston, MA - The Rivier College Raiders Softball team got three hits apiece from sophomore Catherine Roy (Dracut, MA) and freshman Samantha Verney (Goffstown, NH) as the rolled to their 11th win with a 7-3 final over Newbury College.

Roy continues to stay absolutely red hot as she finished the day going 3-for-4 with 3 RBI and 2 doubles while Verney checked in with her own 3-for-4 performance, scored twice and stole a base.

Junior Amanda Thornton (Hanover, MA) and sophomores Nicole Peacock (Warwick, RI) and Samantha Gagnon (Rollinsford, NH) all recorded two hits. Both Thornton and Gagnon added a stolen base and a RBI in the game.

Sophomore Hillary Tarr (North Easton, MA) was magnificent on the mound as she took a no hitter into the 7th. Tarr allowed three runs in the final frame, all earned, on three hits and she also struck out three Nighthawks. With the win, Tarr improves to a perfect 4-0 on the mound.  

Next up for the Softball team will be GNAC newcomer Anna Maria College. The Amcats will visit the Raider Diamond on Friday afternoon with the first pitch scheduled for 4pm.
