Softball drops a pair to Saint Joseph's (ME)

(Nashua, NH) The Rivier College Raiders softball team (20-8, GNAC 12-6) dropped a pair of games today to the Saint Joseph's College (ME) Monks (24-4, 17-1 GNAC) in GNAC action this evening by the scores of 5-2 and 11-0.

The lone bright spot for the Raiders in the first game came from sophomore Nicole Peacock (Warwick, RI) who had 2 of the Raider's 4 hits and stole two bases. Junior Nadjeska Reynolds (Hamden, CT) started for the Raiders and pitched all 7 innings giving up 5 earned runs.

For the Monks their star of the afternoon came on the mound from their starter senior Maddie Kluna (Standish, ME) who tossed a complete game only scattering 4 hits while allowing 2 earned runs and striking out 10. Sophomore Theresa Hendrix (Scarborough, ME) also contributed hitting a long 2 run home run for St. Joe's, her first of two on the day.

In the second game the Raiders found themselves shut out against a strong effort by the Monks as they were only able to compile 3 hits, two of them coming from junior Marissa Mercier (North Smithfield, RI).

The shut out for the Monks was tossed by sophomore Rae-Marie Copan (Newton, MA) who allowed on 3 hits while striking out one. Offensively the Monks tacked on 14 hits, 3 of them being home runs coming off the bats of junior Heather Tripp (Lovell, ME), senior Maria Labbe (Lewiston, ME), and Hendrix, her second home run of the day.

The Raider's next game will come on Saturday (4/14) on the road as they travel to Emerson for a double header. For the Monks they will return home to face Emerson on Saturday in a double header.
