(Myrtle Beach, South Carolina) The Rivier University Softball team fell to .500 on the season after a pair of losses to Fitchburg State University and Penn State-Berks this afternoon down in Myrtle Beach, SC. The Raiders are now 2-2 on the young season.
Game One: Fitchburg State University 7, Rivier University 0 (Final)
The Raiders committed three errors and allowed three seventh inning runs in the 7-0 loss to Fitchburg State this afternoon. Rivier could only muster four hits off of Fitchburg's pitching duo.
Sophomore Taylor Miller (Haverhill, Mass.) allowed four runs, three earned, on four hits as she pitched just five innings of ball. Senior Kirstie Clark (Brentwood, NH) tossed the final two innings allowing three runs on three hits.
Freshman Shaylyn Freitas (Pelham, NH) and Destiny Jordan (Lawrence, Mass.) each had a hit in the contest as did sophomores Lia Bobek (Hollis, NH) and Allyson Nolan (Willington, Conn.).
Game Two: Penn State-Berks 7, Rivier Unviersity 1 (Final)
Freitas went 2-for-2 and senior Nicole Peacock (Warwick, RI) added a RBI hit but the Raiders ultimately fell to Penn State-Berks 7-1.
Rivier committed four errors in game two. Sophomore Libby Sammon (Rockland, Mass.) pitched well despite the errors as she tossed seven innings allowing all seven runs – two earned – on 12 hits and striking out three.
Nolan went 1-for-3 with a run scored in the loss.
Rivier will play two tomorrow as they get set to take on Wesley and Pitt-Greensburg in another split doubleheader.
