(Nashua, New Hampshire) The Rivier University Softball team earned an important Great Northeast Athletic Conference victory this afternoon as they split a double-header with visiting Emmanuel College at Raider Diamond. The Raiders captured a win in game two, 6-5 after falling in five innings by an 8-0 final in game one.
Game One: Emmanuel College 8, Rivier University 0 (Final)
The Rivier defense committed three errors which lead to five unearned runs as the Saint were able to capture a victory in a mercy shortened game one, 8-0.
Sophomore Libby Sammon (Rockland, Mass.) only gave up three earned runs on eight hits while striking out two over her five innings of work. Freshman Nicole Scotti (Concord, NH) was the lone Raider to record a hit of off Emmanuel starter J Kilcoyne as she finished 1-for-2. The single came in the second inning.
Game Two: Rivier University 6, Emmanuel College 5 (Final)
The Raiders plated three runs in the second and fifth innings to steal game two from Emmanuel, 6-5.
Senior Nicole Peacock (Warwick, RI) set the table as she went 3-for-4 with a RBI and SB. Senior Kirste Clark (Brentwood, NH) and sophomore Kathryn Mostone (Pelham, NH) both went 2-for-3 with a run scored and RBI while sophomore Lia Bobek (Hollis, NH) added a 2-for-3, 2 RBI performance in the win.
Sammon earned the win as she tossed five innings allowing five runs on seven hits and Clark came in for the two inning save as she did not allow a hit while striking out one.
The Raiders will return to action tomorrow afternoon as it will be Senior Day at Raider Diamond. The games are scheduled to begin at 12pm with Senior Day festivities beginning at 11:30am.
