Game Recap: Softball |

Softball ends South Carolina trip with a double-header split

(Myrtle Beach, South Carolina) The Rivier University Softball team wrapped up their annual spring break trip to South Carolina today with a pair of games against Saint Elizabeth College and Randolph College. Rivier was able to earn the win in the first game as they outscored Saint Elizabeth 6-1. However the team will travel home with a loss in the nightcap as they fell to Randolph, 6-0.

Game One: Rivier University 6, Saint Elizabeth College 1 (Final)

The Raiders earned win number five of the South Carolina trip as they defeated Saint Elizabeth College, 6-1 behind a strong pitching performance from junior Libby Sammon (Rockland, Mass.). The right hander dazzled the opposition as she allowed just one run on six hits with eight strikeouts in her complete game victory. Sammon is now 2-0 to start the season.

Once again freshman Tori Dugan (Norwalk, Conn.) set the table as she went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Junior Sam Verney (Goffstown, N.H.) and sophomore Shaylyn Freitas (Pelham, N.H.) each added RBI singles as the team belted out eight hits in the ball game. Freshman Hailey Reed (Nashua, N.H.) extended her hitting streak to six games with her 1-for-4 morning.

Game Two: Randolph College 6, Rivier University 0 (Final)

It was a tough task for the Raiders in their southern trip finale as they could only manage just three hits off of Randolph starter Hannah Winfree.

Freshman Jordan Parece (Nashua, N.H.) and Emily Knoops (Tewksbury, Mass.) were the only two starters to record hits while classmate Kelli Jerome (Leicester, Vt.) came off the bench and added a single.

Junior Taylor Miller (Haverhill, Mass.) pitched only five innings allowing five runs (three earned) on six hits while striking out a season high six batters. Parece finished off the ballgame with two innings of work while striking out two and surrendering just one run on two hits.

Rivier leaves South Carolina with a 5-3 overall record. They will return to Nashua where they will host Daniel Webster College in a March 19th double-header at Raider Field.
