(Myrtle Beach, South Carolina) The second day of the Softball team's Spring Trip to South Carolina saw the Raiders earn their third straight victory before finally falling in the nightcap in extra innings. Rivier was able to beat Hilbert College 12-4 in the first game of the day and it took extra frames for Medaille College to earn a 7-6 win.
Game One: Rivier University 12, Hilbert College 4 (Final)
Freshman Tori Dugan (Norwalk, Conn. ) went 4-for-4 with 4 RBIs and three stolen bases as the Rivier Softball team earned their third straight victory this morning as they defeated Hilbert College, 12-4. The rookie centerfielder smashed a two run homer in the fourth inning while adding RBI singles in the second and sixth.
The starting lineup each contributed at least one hit in the contest with sophomore Shaylyn Freitas (Pelham, N.H.) knocking in three RBI on her 2-for-4 day at the dish. Junior Lia Bobek (Hollis, N.H.) also had a day as she went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, three stolen bases and a RBI.
Junior Taylor Miller (Haverhill, Mass.) tossed her first complete game of the year as she allowed four runs (all earned) on eight hits. Miller improves to 3-0 in 2015.
Game Two: Medaille College 7, Rivier University 6 (Final/8 innings)
The Raiders battled back and plated two runs in the top of the seventh to force the extra frame but was unable to capture their fourth victory as they fell to Medaille College, 7-6 in 8 innings.
After squandering a two run lead in the home half of the sixth, the Raiders came out and was able to tie the game on a pair of two out RBI singles from freshman Jordan Parece (Nashua, N.H.) and junior Kathryn Mostone (Pelham, N.H.).
However Medaille was able to walk off on a solo homer to lead off the bottom of the eighth.
Junior Libby Sammon (Rockland, Mass.) tossed four innings of one run ball before being lifted for classmate Jess Shanahan (Merrimack, N.H.). Shanahan allowed six runs (all earned) over her three plus innings of work.
Freshman Hailey Reed (Nashua, N.H.) went 2-for-4 with a RBI as classmate Parece finished with 2 RBI on her 2-for-4 night. Also collecting two hits were juniors Kathryn Mostone (Pelham, N.H.) and Bobek – both went 2-for-4.
Next up for the Raiders will be another twin bill against two different teams tomorrow as they square off against Penn State-Berks and Baptist Bible College in Day Three of the Spring Break trip.
