(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Softball team earned a non-conference double-header sweep of cross town foe Daniel Webster College this evening by final scores of 13-0 and 9-1. Rivier improves their record to 13-14 with the pair of wins.
Game One: Rivier University 13, Daniel Webster College 0 (Final – 5 innings)
Juniors Taylor Miller (Haverhill, Mass.) and Jess Shanahan (Merrimack, N.H.) combined to limit the Daniel Webster offense to just five hits over the five innings in the Raiders' 13-0 game one win. Miller picked up the win as she spun three innings of three hit ball with four strikeouts. Shanahan allowed two hits in her two innings of work.
Sophomore Jessica Cote (Nashua, N.H.) was the offensive star of the game as she went 3-for-3 with 4 RBI to pace the Rivier 12 hit attack. Freshman Emily Knoops (Tewksbury, Mass.) went 2-for-2 with a RBI and sophomore Shaylyn Freitas (Pelham, N.H.) added a pair of RBIs in her 2-for-3 showing at the dish.
Daniel Webster's Abigail Goslin suffered the loss inside the circle.
Game Two: Rivier University 9, Daniel Webster College 1 (Final – 5 innings)
Junior Libby Sammon (Rockland, Mass.) allowed just one unearned run over three innings of work as the Rivier offense knocked out 13 hits in the game two 9-1 win.
Sammon struck out four and scattered two hits for her fifth win of the season. Freshman Jordan Parece (Pelham, N.H.) pitched two hitless innings in relief while setting four of her six outs down by way of the K.
Parece also had a good night at the dish as she went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI, 2 runs scored and 3 stolen bases. Cote once again went 3-for-3 with 2 RBI and freshman leadoff hitter Tori Dugan (Norwalk, Conn.) had a 2-for-4 showing at the plate.
Rivier will be back in action tomorrow evening as the host Johnson and Wales University for an important Great Northeast Athletic Conference double-header at Raider Diamond.
