Softball drops a pair at Saint Joseph's College

(Standish, Maine) The Rivier University Baseball completed their 2015 season this afternoon with a Great Northeast Athletic Conference double-header at Saint Joseph's College. The Raiders lost both ends of the twin bill 10-2 and 8-7 to finish the season with an overall record of 14-20 and a 5-17 conference mark.

Game One: Saint Joseph's College 10, Rivier University 2 (Final/6 innings)

The Raiders allowed four runs in the opening frame as they dropped game one of the double-header, 10-2. Junior Libby Sammon (Rockland, Mass.) pitched four innings allowing seven runs (three earned) on six hits while issuing five walks. Classmate Jess Shanahan (Merrimack, N.H.) spun the final 1.1 innings giving up three earned runs on three hits in the mercy-ruled shortened game.

Offensively the Raiders were only able to collect five hits of Saint Joseph's starter Theresa Hendrix. Both junior Lia Bobek (Hollis, N.H.) and freshman Tori Dugan (Norwalk, Conn.) recorded RBI base hits as they went 1-for-2 and 1-for-3, respectively.

Game Two: Saint Joseph's College 8, Rivier University 7 (Final)

The back end of the double-header saw the Raiders hold a slim 7-6 lead in the fifth before the Monks were able to plate the eventual game tying and winning runs in a thrilling 8-7 finale.

Freshman Jordan Parece (Pelham, N.H.) suffered the loss in the circle as she tossed two innings allowing two runs on two hits. Junior Taylor Miller (Haverhill, Mass.) received a no-decision as she pitched 4 innings surrendering six runs (five earned) on ten hits and striking out three.

Rivier pounded out 13 hits off Saint Joseph's starter Laura Jordan. However it was the great relief work of Danielle Egan – one hit, 2.1 innings, four strikeouts – that kept the Raiders off the board past the fifth inning.

Dugan went a perfect 4-for-4 from the leadoff spot with a pair of stolen bases and RBIs. Bobek was also perfect going 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored from the nine hole and both sophomore Destiny Jordan (Lawrence, Mass.) and freshman Emily Knoops (Tewksbury, Mass.) added two hits apiece.
