Franklin, Mass. - The Rivier University softball program faced the Bulldogs on Saturday and walked away with a convincing when and a narrow loss.

How It Happened
Game One
The Bulldogs were first in the books with a two runs at the bottom of the first inning. The Raiders narrowed the lead at the top of the second. It stated with freshman Kayla Miles (Londonderry, N.H.) cranking a double down the left center. Welch was then thrown out at first on a SAC bunt on the following play. Miles found third on the play, then junior Nicole Capra (Windham, N.H.) flied out to right field as Welch crossed the plate for the first run for the Raiders.
The Raiders didnt get back on the board until the seventh inning. Senior Kasey Smith (Hopkinton, N.H.) doubled through the left side and was eventually sent home off a Emma Rousseau ground-rule, RBI.
Game Two (5 innings)
The Raiders were first on the board this time around. Junior Katerina St. Angelo (Johnston, R.I.) ripped one down the right side that sent freshman Amanda Atkinson (Mason, N.H.) who was on second base, back to the dugout for the first run of the game. Dean snuck in two runs before the end of the first inning, taking a one point lead over the Raiders. Rivier responded at the top of the second off a run scored by sophomore Alyssa Gerardi (Manchester, N.H.). The Bulldogs responded again off an RBI double. The score at the end of the second inning was 3-2 in favor of the home team.
However, it was the third inning when the Raiders turned it up. St. Angelo singled up the middle then Miles and junior Julia Daily (Dracut, Mass.) walked. With a woman on first and second, Gerardi reached first on a fielders choice and an error by the catcher. Both Miles and St. Angelo found home earing 2 runs for the Raiders. In the very next play Daily scored on a wild pitch. Gerardi eventually scored off senior Katie Welch's (Wilmington, Mass.) single up the middle. After a series of stolen bases and two walks, Welch scored an unearned run. The score by the end of the third inning was 7-3 in favor of the visitors.
Both teams went scoreless in the fourth inning then the Raiders capitalized with another five runs in the fifth inning.
Inside the Numbers
- Mainville went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI's and 2 runs in game one.
- Olivia Boucher hit a homerun in the fourth inning and earned a total of 3 RBI's on the day.
- Sophomore pitcher Nicole Verrette (Haverhill, Mass.) tallied 5 strikeouts in 5 innings allowing only 6 hits in game two.
- Junior pitcher Sydney Greeno (Shirley, Mass.) handled game two earning 11 K's and gave up 8 hits in 7 innings.
- Smith earned 4 stolen bases and currently sits third in the conference for stolen bases.
- The Raiders earned 18 hits on the day.
