HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Rivier wasted no time jumping in front, plating two runs in the first inning.
  • Senior Avry Nelson sparked the offense with a leadoff single before first-year Emma Politz reached on a walk, and senior Hayley Rapaglia delivered a two-run single up the middle to put the Raiders ahead 2-0.
  • Saint Joseph's pushed across an unearned run in the bottom of the first, but Rivier answered in the third when Rapaglia came through again, knocking in Politz with an RBI single to stretch the lead to 3-1.
  • The Monks pulled within one in the fourth on an RBI double
  • The Raiders responded with a key insurance run in the sixth.
  • Senior Olivia Couto doubled to lead off the frame and later scored on an RBI single from Liv Harnish for a 4-2 advantage.
  • Junior Hailey Berube was strong in the circle, tossing a complete game and limiting Saint Joseph's to four hits while allowing just one earned run
  • Berube stranded eight runners and retired the Monks in order in the fifth and sixth innings.
  • Saint Joseph's threatened in the seventh, putting two runners aboard, but the Raider defense held firm as Berube induced the final out to secure the tournament-opening win.
