Nashua, NH - In men's collegiate soccer action, the Falcons of
Albertus Magnus College swooped in to Rivier College to defeat the
Raiders 6-3.
The Falcons owned the first half of play scoring 4 times and
going into half time with a 4-0 lead. Jamal Howard (West
Haven, CT) scored the game's first two goals for the Falcons off
assists by Derek Delucia (Hamden, CT). Delucia then added a
goal of his own from an assist by David Pietkiewicz (Clifton, NJ)
to make the score 3-0 and Matt Siperas (North Haven, CT) added the
4th goal of the half from an assist by Mike DaSilva(Stratford, CT).
DaSilva started the second half with his first goal of the game off
Delucia's third assist. With just over 18 minutes left in the
game, the Falcons pulled starting goalkeeper Ryan Mihalyak (West
Haven, CT) and put in back-up Anthony Paturzo (West Haven,
CT). The Raiders took the opportunity and started to put on
the pressure. In the next 9 minutes of play, the Raiders
scored 3 goals, two were unassisted by Chris Nugent
(Surrey, England), his 4th and 5th goals of the season,
which were split by a goal by senior Matt Blair (Haverhill,
MA) assisted by freshman Cameron Williams (Lisbon,
NH). The goal was the first of Blair's career.
With the score 5-3, Albertus coach Jim Bernardo would take no
more chances as he replaced his starting goalkeeper for the
remainder of the game. DaSilva then added the sixth and final
goal of the game with just over five minutes to play from an assist
by Peter Hamasian (Hamden, CT).
The win improves Albertus Magnus to a 7-6-1 overall record and
2-4-1 in GNAC play while the loss drops Rivier to a 0-12-0 overall
and 0-4-0 in the GNAC.
