Rivier College - 0
St. Joseph's College - 2
Nashua, NH - In what could have been described as a must win for
both teams, the women's soccer team from St. Joseph's College (ME)
defeated Rivier College 2-0 tonight in Nashua, NH.
The Monks came into this contest with a 6-2-1 conference record
and were sitting in sixth place in the GNAC. With the win,
the Monks momentarily jumped up into the fourth spot and would hold
a home playoff game if the season ended today. St. Joe's does
have one conference game left and are in control of their own
destiny.
St. Joseph's Jessica Needham (E. Bridgewater, MA) started off
the scoring midway through the first half as she took a pass from
captain Katie Jordan (Sandwich, MA). The score remained 1-0
after a well played and very close game. Twelve minutes into
the second half, the Monks struck again when the teams leading goal
scorer, Mikayla Call (Portland, ME), scored an unassisted goal to
put St. Joe's up 2-0.
Katye Mayo (Fairfield, ME) preserved the shut out by turning
back 6 Raider shots during the game. Rivier's goalkeeper
Brittany Puleo (Hudson, NH) finished the game with
9 saves in a losing effort.
