East Providence, R.I. - Junior Scott Kirchner (Irvine, Calif.)
scored a pair of goals to lead the Johnson & Wales University
men's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Rivier in a Great Northeast
Athletic Conference contest at Pierce Stadium on Tuesday
evening. It was the final regular season home game for
seniors Gregory Grant (New Milford, Conn.), Jeremiah Schenzel
(Carson City, Nev.) and Doug Weiler (Hauppauge, N.Y.).
Kirchner put JWU on the board first when he took a pass from
Schenzel and went on a breakaway down the middle of the
field. He then buried a shot into the upper right corner of
the net to give the Widlcats the 1-0 lead at the 1:32 mark.
Kirchner's second goal of the game came with an assist to sophomore
Edwin Sojos (Deep River, Conn.) at the 10:53 mark, giving the team
the 2-0 advantage. JWU took the 2-0 lead into halftime after
an 11-2 advantage in shots on goal.
The Wildcats continued to dominate play in the second half and
took the 3-0 lead on an unassisted goal by Sojos at the 69:46 mark
to cap off the scoring for the contest. JWU had a commanding
25-5 lead in shots for the game.
Sophomore Joe Ferraro (Freehold, N.J.) had two saves in goal and
for Johnson & Wales while freshman Austin Carpenter (Overland
Park, Kansas) helped secure the shutout for the Wildcats, making
one save. Sophomore John Jarvis (St. Albans,
Vt.) made eight stops in the setback for Rivier.
