No-10 Rivier College (7-1 overall; 1-0 GNAC) traveled to Mahwah New
Jersey to take on No-7 Ramapo College and No-14 Philadelphia
Biblical University as well as Division I Sacred Heart University
and returned to Nashua with three more wins added to it's
record. The Raiders opened up the weekend with a sound 3-1
win over No-7 Ramapo College to give the Roadrunners their first
loss of the season. RIV then followed up the opening day
victory with a 3-0 sweep and complete team win over No-14 PBU
followed by a hard fought 3-1 victory over Division 1 SHU.
Junior Zach Hansen was the catalyst for the
Raiders all weekend. The 6'1 setter led Rivier's offense to a
.296 hitting percentage over the three matches including an
individual performance of 131 assists (11.9 assists/game) and 32
digs (2.91 digs/game). Junior Matt Ferreira
had another outstanding weekend on both sides of the net. The
6'6 middle hitter led all Raiders with 40 kills, a .456 hitting
percentage (40K -9E -68Attempts) and 11 blocks. The sophomore
outside hitter tandem of Jared Andreozzi and
Austin Soucy combined for 64 kills. Soucy
also passed well and scooped up 21 digs in the three matches.
Junior libero Kyle O'Neill registered a team high
35 digs and a 3.18 digs/game average in the back row for the Blue
and White while senior middle hitter Scott Wright
put down 25 kills (including 7 kills in set four against Ramapo to
seal the win) on the weekend. Freshman opposite hitter
Drew Corwin once again was consistent with 23
digs, 9 kills, 6 assists, 4 ace serves, 2 blocks and steady passing
in the three matches. Chris Deluca and
Chris Convertito provided good energy off the
bench.
