Rivier College Women soccer hosted the Blue Jays of St Joseph
College in a conference match and lost 4-0. However, it was a great
showing for the Raiders who were reeling after a tough loss last
Wednesday.
It is also is a good sign for this young team as the adversity
they faced after such a tough loss did not affect their effort in
this match. Like a veteran team, the young Raiders shrugged it off
and got back to playing their kind of game , which is high
pressure, challenging all 50/50 balls and playing hard. Rivier
College did that and despite falling behind at the end of the first
half 1-0 , they did not quit.
The Blue Jays would get another goal on the board at 2 minutes
into the second half and again, the Raiders just dug their heels in
and played harder. Freshmen of Londonderry NH, Jill
Pilotte had some great runs and shots on net from the
outside mid position and forwards Amy DeSimone and
Georgia Steese both Freshmen from Methuen, Ma and
Wilmon NH respectively all had scoring opportunities. Senior
Sabrina Carvalho of Tyngsboro Ma. also had a
chance on a corner kick late in the game that the keeper was able
to come out and make a play on and stop.
The Raiders Keeper, Britt Puleo, Hudson NH once
again played fantastic and had some great saves. The Young Raiders
showed character today and why the future is hopeful for this team.
They came back and played together after what could have been a
season changing loss last Wednesday.
Now they get a shot at another 3 points this Monday Oct
12th in a Columbus day match against conference
foe Suffolk University at 2pm. The Raiders will look to improve on
their conference record of 1-6-1 and over all 3-6-1. St Joe's
improved to 4-3-1 in the conference and 7-5-2 overall and will play
this Monday Johnson and Wales.
