The Raiders said Hello to the Rams of Suffolk University today
in a Great Northeast athletic Conference contest. The Rivier
College team walked away with a well earned 4-2 victory.
The Rams opened the scoring in the seventh minute when they
attacked down the left flank. Bernhard Lotterer served a ball that
Danny Lloyd got on the end of to open up the scoring. The
Raiders countered in the thirty seventh minute when Senior
Gustavo Marquez (Lowell, MA)
finished a corner kick. The corner started when Freshman
Eric Moreno (Lynn, MA) served a
ball from the left. Freshman Mike Birecki (Andover,
MA) flicked the ball onto Senior Robbie Belcher
(Ocala, FL) who fed Marques for the equalizer. The teams
played to a one/one tie at the half. Moreno scored the go ahead
goal in the 62nd minute. Junior Chris
Nugent (Camberly Surrey, England) played
a wonderful ball to Moreno who ticked the ball passed the Suffolk
keeper. The Rams drew even less than 2 minutes later. Luis Flores
scored on a pass from Danny Lloyd to knot the score at two goals
apiece.
In the 73rd minute the RED cards came out. The
yellows had been flashed early and often and both teams went a man
down. The Raiders capitalized on a dead
ball situation. Nugent scored on a direct pass
from Marques in the 78th minute. The Raiders put
the game out of reach in the 77th minute when Marques
hit a drive into the upper right corner of the goal.
Junior John Jarvis (Henniker,
NH) started in net for Rivier. Jarvis faced 19 Ram shots
making seven saves. The Raiders defense, anchored by Sophomore
Cameron William (Lisbon, NH), Mike Birecki, and Juniors
Andrew McCarn (Laconia, NH) and
Gustavo Paiva (Nashua, NH) were
stellar in the victory.
The Raiders play at home again on Tuesday October 21st in a
Great Northeast Athletic Conference match against Emmanuel College.
