Nashua, NH - Rivier women's soccer welcomed GNAC foe Mount Ida
College to Nashua for an important conference match today.
Although Rivier outshot Mount Ida, the ball would not bounce the
right way for the home team as the Mustangs were able to secure
their first conference victory of the season, 2-0.
Rivier seemed to play in the Mustangs end for the entire game,
but couldn't find the back of the net, no matter how close they got
to the goal. Rivier had 12 corner kicks, opposed to Mount
Ida's 1, but didn't get a single shot off on any corners.
Mustang junior Lindsay Lincoln (Clarksburg, MA) was credited for
both goals. The first coming just past the 12 minute mark
when she received a pass just across mid field with defender
Emily Ingram (Litchfield, NH) right by her
side. Ingram was able to intercept to poke the ball away, but
poked it closer toward the goal as she stumbled, giving Lincoln a
one on one against goalkeeper Britt Puleo (Hudson,
NH). Lincolns second goal came in the second half as
she took a deep pass into the goal box and fired a shot point blank
at Puleo, who had come out to intercept. Puleo stopped the
shot, which then deflected off a Rivier defender and rolled 30 ft.
into the empty net.
Mount Ida goal keeper Meghan Begins (Jericho, VT) had 4 saves in
the win, while Puleo saved 3 shots for the Raiders.
