Nashua, NH - After a seven game winless streak, the Raiders were
able to get back into the win column tonight against a depleted
Newbury College Team with a 6-2 win. Newbury played
tough during the first half, playing with only 10 players and no
subs, they went into halftime down only 2-1. However, they
couldn't keep up the pace during the second half and Rivier was
able to explode for 4 more goals.
The scoring started early as senior Emily Ingram
(Litchfield, NH) scored the first goal for the Raiders
just 6:38 into the game. 13 minutes later, Rivier added to
their lead when Kathleen Moran (Pembroke, NH)
scored on a pass from Caroline Zak (Westford, MA)
to extend the lead to 2-0. Then with only eleven seconds left
in the first half, Newbury's Ashley Greene-Allen (Brockton, MA) was
able to break free from the defense to get the Nighthawks on the
board and go into halftime down just 2-1.
In the second half it took Rivier just over 3 minutes to get the
ball into the net to extend the lead back to two goals at
3-1. Sabrina Carvalho (Tyngsboro, MA) would
get the ball from Jillian Pilotte (Londonderry,
NH) for the goal, then 4 minutes later it was Carvalho
again, taking a pass from Amy Desimone (Methuen,
MA) to push lead up to 4-1. Georgia Steese
(Wilmot, NH) and Moran would add the final two Rivier
goals before Greene-Allen would add Newbury's second goal as the
Raider's would play keep away for the remaining 6 minutes to keep
the score and finish the game at 6-2.
Rivier was able to out shoot the Nighthawks 31-6 with 16 shots
on goal. Nighthawk keeper Jennifer Anderson (Palmer, MA) made
10 saves and gave up 6 goals in the loss while Rivier freshman
Karina Arnold (New London, NH) would make 3 saves,
giving up 2 goals for the Raider victory.
The Raiders will travel to Norwich University in Vermont on
Saturday, October 24 for a 1:00 PM GNAC game against the Cadets.
