Nashua, NH - In a tough game that saw two spectacular saves on
penalty shots, one by each team, Anna Maria College was able to
fend off the young Rivier Raider squad for the 2-1 win on senior
night in Nashua NH.
Just seven minutes into the game Anna Maria's Angela Giuffrida
(Leicester, MA) got the AMCATS onto the board as it looked like the
Raiders could be in for a long night. But the young team was
able to bear down and hold the AMCATS scoreless for the rest of the
half as well as get some shots of their own to end the first half
down just 1-0.
The first goal of the second half came from Giuffrida again as
she was able to get the ball past the defense of the Raiders and
extend the AMCAT lead to 2-0. 10 minutes later, Rivier's
Erin Gatsas (Manchester, NH) found an opening and
was able to cut the lead in half as she put the ball into the goal.
Anna Maria was awarded a penalty shot with just over 10 minutes
to play, which is where the excitement began. Rivier Goal
Keeper Jenna Beadle (Rumney, NH) was able to stop
the shot to keep Rivier within striking distance to tie the
game. Then, five minutes later, Rivier was awarded a penalty
shot, to which Anna Maria Goal Keeper Allyssa Boykin (Worcester,
MA) matched her counterpart, stopping the shot and preserving the
2-1 victory for the AMCATS.
Rivier will travel to Thomas College on Saturday, October 24 for
an 11:00 AM start time for the NAC match-up.
