RAIDERS FINISH STRONG AGAINST LASELL AND SUFFOLK

Newton, MA - Rivier College (9-3 GNAC) reached the 20 win plateau for the 5th straight year after earning two victories over GNAC opponents Lasell College and Suffolk University. 

Rivier (20-12 overall) defeated Lasell College 3-1 to open up the day.  RIV came out strong in the first two sets along with most of set three but hit a small speed bump in closing out the match.  The Raiders regrouped and took over set 4 at the half way point and never looked back.  Freshman Kenna Finlayson, the lone Raider to reach double digits in kills, scored 22 to lead the Raider offense.  The first year player also scooped up 7 digs and along with 2 blocks and 2 ace serves.  Junior Brittni Taylor led all defenders with 21 digs and added 3 kills on offense.  The 5'7 outside hitter also passed well in the end for the Raiders.  Senior Becky Gautreau and sophomore Danielle Stoodley combined for 22 digs and a solid 33 for 35 on receive.  Setter Caitie Callahan scored a double double with 36 assists and 10 digs while counterpart Lauren Saccoccio dished out 21 assists while scoring 6 kills, 2 ace serves, 5 digs and a perfect 11 for 11 on receive.  Middle hitters Nicole Rodriguez and Lindsay Chace combined for 10 kills while outside hitter Danielle Jacques chipped in with 4 of her own.

RIV swept Suffolk University in the second match of the day to cement a home playoff spot in the first round of the GNAC playoffs.  Finlayson and Chace did most of the damage on offense with 11 and 8 kills respectively while Taylor followed with 5 of her own.  Sophomore middle hitter Kate-Lyn Breault and freshman middle Amelia Iverson combined for 6 kills on 13 attempts while first year pin hitters Meghan Farrell and Courtney Roberts-Cookson tallied a combined 5 kills.  Gautreau and Stoodley were once again solid in the back row with a combined 19 digs and good passing.  First year players Christi Pratte directed the offense well in the end while classmates Hannah Sturman and Amanda Russo controlled the defense to wrap up the match.

Rivier will host the first round of the GNAC playoffs on Tuesday 11/3 at 7:00pm against Mount Ida College.
