Daniel Webster Takes Round 3 of the Nashua Series

Rivier College and Daniel Webster College renewed acquaintances tonight in the Gate City Match up. The Eagles scored early and late to get the win 3-2.

The Eagles opened the scoring in the second minute when they attacked down the right flank serving a ball that Sophomore Spencer Bernard headed home. The Raiders countered with a goal by Junior Chris Nugent (Camberly Surrey, England) in the 30th minute of play. Senior Gustavo Marquez (Lowell, MA) found Nugent all alone a step inside the 18 yard box for the equalizer. The Raiders went ahead in the 40th minute when Nugent returned the favor and feed a short pass the Marquez for the second goal of the match. Junior Gustavo Paiva (Nashua, NH) found Nugent in the 18 for the goal scoring opportunity. The teams played back and forth soccer for the better part of the second half. In the 60th minute DWC tied the score on a Nicholas Klesh (Bedford, NH) goal on a pass from Bernard. The Raiders back breaker came with only five minutes remaining in the match.  Off a corner kick Richard Trafton (Raymond, NH) knifed his way between the Rivier defenses to score the game winner.

Sophomore goalkeeper Joe Keene (Bristol, NH) started for the Eagles. Keene had one save facing eight Raider shots. Junior John Jarvis (Henniker, NH) started in net for Rivier. Jarvis faced 10 Eagle shots making two saves.

The Raiders play Saturday October 10th in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match against Lasell College.
