Nashua, NH- Rivier seemed to have a cover on the basket as they
struggled to find the hole in the second half in a loss
to conference foe Johnson & Wales University 72-58.
Rivier kept the game close throughout the first half by
shooting 57% from the floor and finished the first stanza with a
score of 37-34. The Raiders kept the game close for the
fist few minutes of the second half, but never took the lead from
the Wildcats as Rivier went 0-7 from behind the arc and
Johnson & Wales took full advantage to come away with the win..
Junior Don Poitras (Bow, NH) played well for
the Raiders by recording a double-double scoring 20 points with 10
rebounds. Sophomore Joe Granato (Arlington,
MA) had a solid game himself by shooting 6-10 with a total
of 15 points and played a team high 30 minutes. Rivier had a
slight edge on the boards by out rebounding the wildcats 39-31, but
20 turnovers allowed the Wildcats to extend their lead in the
second half of the game.
The Wildcats were lead by Sophomore Lamonte Thomas
(Providence, RI) who had a game high 27 points. They
also got a nice game off the bench from Sophomore Calvin
Jones (Providence, RI) who scored 14
points and grabbed 7 rebounds. The Wildcats struggled
shooting the ball in the second half as well, however, their
stifling defense was able to come up with 13 steals in the game,
allowing for multiple fast break opportunities for the
Wildcats.
Rivier will take on Medgar Evers in the Bard College Tournament
at 8:00 PM on Friday, December 11 in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY.
