No-5 Rivier College (12-1 overall; 4-0 GNAC) collected win number
twelve with a convincing 3-0 sweep over Massachusetts Institute of
Technology. The Raiders, off to the best start in program
history, did it with outstanding blocking, great ball control on
receive and solid serving. Senior Scott
Wright led the blocking brigade with 6 blocks while
Matt Ferreira, Zach Hansen, Austin Soucy, Jared Andreozzi,
and Drew Corwin all put up 2 blocks apiece. Junior
libero Kyle O'Neill led all receivers with 16 out
17 attempts while Corwin, Soucy, and Chris
Convertito were flawless with 32 for 32 on receive.
RIV bombed in 7 service aces with five players scoring 1 or more
winners.
Setter Zach Hansen once again had a great all
around match picking up a double double in the the three set
match. The junior dished out 43 assists and scooped up a team
high 12 digs. Andreozzi and Ferreira led all Raiders with 11
kills a piece while Soucy followed with 9 kills of his own.
Corwin, continuing to improve in his first season, laced in 7 kills
(10 attempts with just 2 errors for a .500 hitting percentage) and
picked up 9 digs. Chris Deluca, Alex Xenidis, and
Andrew Paine all played well off the bench for the
Raiders.
