Raiders Battle Hard But Come Up Short

The Raiders capped off a fun-filled day of games at the newly blessed Raider Field with a hard fought battle vs. conference rival Johnson & Wales University.

JWU opened the scoring in the 23rd minute  to take a 1-0 lead. In the 39th minute the Raiders knotted the match. Junior Midfielder Gustavo Paiva (Nashua, NH) entered the game as a substitute. Paiva immediately took control with his ball possession and laser-like passing. On this play he received a through pass and dribbled into the 18 yard box where he was taken down by a JWU defender. The Raiders Junior Captain Chris Nugent (Camberly Surry, England) capitalized on the penalty kick. The teams played to a 1-1 tie in the first half.  JWU struck again in the 49th minute to go ahead 2-1. In the 63rd minute Senior Captain Gustavo Marques (Lowell, MA) received a cross from Freshman defender Mike Birecki (Andover, MA) to again bring the sides level. Marques received a deft pass, chest tapped a ball and beat the JWU goalkeeper from point blank range. The game winner for JWU came in the 65th minute of play.

Junior John Jarvis (Henniker, NH) started in goal giving up one goal on ten (10) shots. Jarvis made four (4) saves. Freshman Matt St. Peter (Colchester, VT) stepped between the pipes for the second half St. Peter faced eight (8) shots making two (2) saves. Sophomore Cameron Williams (Lisbon, NH) contributed to the Raider attack with tremendous passing. Brian Joaquim (Mt. Vernon, NH) made his presence felt right off the bat by leading the Raider attack. Joaquim is returning after a three-game absence.   

The Raiders will play Tuesday September 22nd when they travel to Newbury College (Brookline, MA) the game will be played at Pine Manor College in Chestnut Hill, MA. The Raiders are back at home on Thursday evening when they play host to WPI. On Saturday they travel to Emerson College for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match up. Emerson plays its home game at The field at Roche Playground.
