Castleton, VT - Courtney Nolan (Spring Lake Heights, NJ) scored
two goals and had two assists as Castleton State College defeated
Rivier College 6-0 in North Atlantic Conference field hockey action
Saturday evening at Spartan Stadium. With the win, Castleton
improves to a perfect 2-0 in conference play (2-5 overall).
First-year program, Rivier falls to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in
conference.
Molly Fraher (Goshen, CT) broke a scoreless tie 14:35 into the
contest, scoring on a perfectly set up penalty corner. Nolan served
the corner to Sarah Flore (Springfield, VT) at the point who pushed
it to the left and Fraher one-timed it past Rivier goalie
Jenna Beadle (Rumney, NH). Nolan tacked on two
unanswered goals prior to halftime, including one on a continuation
of a penalty corner with no time remaining.
In the second half Nolan assisted on a Kealy Chipman (Bellows
Falls,VT) tally, as well as Fraher's second of the contest to make
it 5-0. Kayla Masse (Rutland, VT) finished the scoring with
12:31 remaining in the contest off a Marie Amaral (Barre, VT)
assist.
Castleton controlled play for much of the game, firing off 31
shots (to just five for Rivier) including 25 in the first half. The
Spartans also held an 18-4 edge in penalty corners for the game.
Beadle stopped 12 shots, including 11 in the first half as she
was tested early and often. Shiobhan Whittemore (Springfield, VT)
started in goal for the Spartans, making three saves before giving
way to Bridget Dusha (Greenwich, NY) who stopped the lone shot to
come her way.
Rivier is off until October 3 when the Raiders play host to NAC
foe Lasell College at 1:00 pm
