The Raiders (11-3; 2-0) set a new program record for consecutive
wins with six as they took down a very tough and athletic Curry
squad. Riv played an uninspired first half as they had just 8 field
goals compared with 14 turnovers. After some crucial halftime
adjustments, the Blue and Gray came out fired up and focused. The
Raiders improved nearly every aspect of their game in the final
stanza. They shot 35% from the field (38% from downtown) and 80%
from the charity stripe. The visitors also did a better job of
taking care of the ball as they had just 6 turnovers in the final
stanza. The difference in the game, as has been the case all
season, came on the defensive side of the ball. Riv held the
Colonels scoreless in the final 8:16 of the game. That is when the
Raiders went on a 13-0 run to put the game out of reach.
Sophomore Amandra Purcell (Hudson, NH) dropped
in a game-high 16 points (10 of 12 from the free throw line) to go
with 3 rebounds. Senior Monica White (Augusta, ME)
was the only other double-figure scorer for Riv as she chipped in
with 10 points, 3 rebounds and a game-high 3 assists. Senior
Jess Mellen, (Rockland, MA), who would not
let this team lose down the stretch, ripped down a game-high 12
rebounds (5 offensive) to go with 9 points and 2 assists. Junior
Steph Adams (Nashua, NH) and freshman
Ashley Metivier (Hudson, NH) also played well as
they combined for 14 points and 10 rebounds.
The Raiders get on the bus on Saturday for their 3rd consecutive
road game. They travel to Standish, ME for a critical conference
showdown against the Monks of Saint Joseph College - game time is
1pm.
On a side note...with her 2 assists this evening, senior Jess
Mellen becomes only the second player in GNAC (Great Northeast
Athletic Conference) history, male or female, to have career
milestones of over 1000 points, 500 rebounds and 300 assists.
Please send along your congratulations!
