Pasadena, CA - The Rivier College men's basketball team took
down host CalTech 66-49 in the opening round of the CalTech
Invitational on January 2nd then Fell to Claremont McKenna College
(Claremont, CA) 49-54 today in the championship game.
In the first game against host CalTech, Rivier forward/center
Don Poitras (Bow, NH) had a career high 27
points to lead the Raiders to victory. Along with his 10
rebounds, Poitras recorded a double-double on 11-13 shooting in the
game and a perfect 5-5 from the free throw line. Fellow
captain Nick Bean (E. Longmeadow, MA) chipped in
with 10 points of his own while sophomore Will Snider
(Brooklyn, NY) added 9 points for the Raiders.
In the championship game the Raiders had much less success at
the offensive end of the floor as Bean led all Raiders with 12
points. Sophomores Joe Granato (Arlington,
MA) and Garon Whitney (Dover, NH) both
added 9 points for Rivier in the defeat.
The 1-1 weekend on the California road trip leaves the Raiders
sitting at 3-6 on the season as they return to the cold of New
England and resume conference play against Emerson College on
Saturday, January 9th at 12:00 pm in Boston, MA.
