Rivier (13-7; 4-3) lost their second game in a week in the final
seconds. They are battling through some injuries to key players but
that is no excuse as they shot just 16% in the final twenty
minutes. Despite this poor shooting, the Raiders tied the game at
56 on a big 3 with 1:46 remaining in the game. The Rams responded
on the very next possession with a driving layup that gave them a
2-point lead and, eventually, the win. The Blue and Gray had
several opportunities to tie or go ahead in the final minute thanks
to 2 crucial missed free throws by Suffolk. Although they were good
looks at the basket, none of them dropped and the visitors suffered
another heart-breaking loss.
The Raiders were again led by the sharp-shooting duo of
sophomore Amandra Purcell (Hudson, NH) and senior
Monica White (Augusta, ME). Purcell dropped in 19
points (on 5 for 8 from downtown) to go with 7 rebounds. White
finished as the only player on either team with a double-double as
she chipped in with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Jess
Mellen (Rockland, MA), who continues to give gutsy
performances despite an injury, pulled down 8 rebounds and dished
out a game-high 6 assists. Junior Steph Adams
(Nashua, NH) and freshman Mackenzie Brooks
(Colebrook, NH) were solid in their starts as they combined for 16
points and 20 rebounds.
Riv returns to the Muldoon Center for a 2-game homestand
starting with a critical conference matchup on Wednesday evening.
The Mustangs of Mount Ida College travel to Nashua for a 7pm tip.
