Nashua, NH – Jake Leclaire (Henderson, Nev.) scored two
goals for Norwich University as the Cadets handled Rivier College
by a score of 3-0. The win improves the Cadets to 7-5-2 overall and
4-2 in GNAC play, while the Raiders fall to 1-10 overall, 0-6 in
the GNAC.
Leclaire's first goal came just past the 19 minute mark as he
received a pass from teammate Garrett Shufelt (Clifton Park, NY)
from the right side of the field at the top of the box. Leclaire
put the shot past a diving Matt St. Peter
(Colchester, VT) for the 1-0 lead and the eventual game winner.
Leclaire tacked on another goal just two minutes later after a hand
ball inside of the box by Rivier's Chris Nugent
(Camberley, UK). Leclaire put the penalty shot into the lower right
corner to give the Cadets a 2-0 advantage that would last until
half time.
The Cadets final goal came in the second half at the 60:49 mark.
Roger Motaze (Cameroon) went streaking down the center of the field
after a perfectly played ball by Joe Young (McLean, VA) from
midfield. Motaze had no trouble finding the back of the net to give
Norwich the 3-0 lead.
Norwich outshot the Raiders 23-6 overall, but 5 of the 6 Raider
shots were on goal, compared to just 10 of 23 for the Cadets.
Norwich goal keeper Alex Toomey picked up the win, allowing no
goals and stopping 5 shots on goal. Meanwhile, St. Peter takes the
loss for the Raiders, allowing 3 goals and recording 7 saves on the
night.
Rivier will travel across town to Daniel Webster College on
Thursday afternoon for a rescheduled game at 3:30 pm. The Cadets
will host GNAC opponent St. Joseph's College (ME) on Saturday, Oct.
16th.
