NEWPORT, R.I. -After a scoreless first half, four different
Seahawks found the back of the goal to send Salve Regina University
field hockey to a 4-0 victory over Rivier College in a non-league
meeting, the final contest of the season for both teams.
The Seahawk depth proved too much for the Raiders who were
visiting Newport for the first time and fielded only 11
players.
Freshman forward Lisa Bucci [Irvington, N.Y.] struck the
game-winning goal 52 second into the second period with an assist
from senior forward Brittany Lopes [Lexington, Mass.]. Bucci later
assisted on sophomore Kylie Kenney's [So. Burlington, Vt.] first
collegiate goal in the 43rd minute for a 2-0 advantage.
A pair of Seahawk freshmen forwards finished off the scoring.
Alexandria Bierce [Roxbury, Conn.] registered an unassisted tally
in the 60th minute while Alexa Bracco [Hauppauge, N.Y.] scored with
an assist from junior Samantha Dalton [Falmouth, Mass.] three
minutes later.
Junior Natalie Balletta [Leominster, Mass.] minded the net in
the first half and sophomore Helen Bohnenberger [East Falmouth,
Mass.] stopped one shot on goal in the second half to record her
fourth victory of the season. Freshman Meghan Stephen [Pelham,
N.H.] made five saves for the Raiders.
The Raiders finish their season with a 1-15 overall record and
0-7 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play.
