New Haven, CT- On Saturday afternoon, the Falcons dropped a
heartbreaking loss to visiting Rivier 79-78. Albertus Magnus
trailed 79-78 with time for one last play when freshman guard James
Economopoulos's (Wallingford, CT) three pointer rattled in and out
as the buzzer sounded handing the Falcons their second loss in as
many games. Albertus led 45-41 at the break closing out the
half on a 5-0 run. The Falcons battled in the second half
getting the lead to 63-55 with 12:42 remaining. Rivier
responded with a 7-0 run making the score 63-62. The game
would be back and forth until the last minute. Economopoulos
swished a three-pointer to put the Falcons ahead 78-76 before
junior guard Nick Bean (East Longmeadow, MA) made
a three-pointer of his own to make the score 79-78 before the final
Albertus three-point attempt. Sophomore forward Ray Askew
(Hamden, CT) had a season high 37 points and game high 15
rebounds. Rivier College featured a balanced scoring attack
with all five starters in double figures. Junior center
Don Poitras (Bow, NH) had a team high 16 points
and six rebounds. Albertus drops to 17-6, 13-3 GNAC on the
season while Rivier College improves to 8-15, 5-11 GNAC.
