Raiders Outshine Lasers

Nashua, NH - Rivier College (8-0 GNAC; 19-4 overall) took down Lasell College in straight sets to remain undefeated in GNAC play.  The 7th ranked team in the nation used a diverse offense, tough serving, and big blocking to handle the garrulous visitors. 

RIV put down an impressive .477 hitting percentage, put up 9 blocks, and put in 12 ace serves to control the match.  Setter Zach Hansen (Shelton, CT)dished out 38 assists and lasered in a match high 6 ace serves while scooping up a team high 7 digs.  Middle hitter Matt Ferreira (Lincoln, RI)paced the offense with 11 kills while counterpart Taylor Lindner (Cheshire, CT) led the blocking with 5 rejects.  Lindner also combined with sophomore Alex Xenidis (Shelton, CT) for an impressive 13 kills on 19 attempts with no errors for a .684 hitting percentage.  Junior Jared Andreozzi (Barrington, RI) had yet another match of double digit kills with 10 while junior John Furka (Massapequa, NY)pounded out 9 of his own.  Back row quad Drew Corwin (Sudbury, MA), Chris Convertito (Trumbull, CT), Andrew Paine (Quincy, MA), and Francis Dallatore (Wilmington, DE) combined for solid passing and 13 digs while 5'8 freshman outside hitter Jamie Chue (Newton, MA) thumped a set and match ending kill.

For the Lasers, freshman Spencer Parker (Newington, CT) led all players with 12 kills and picked up 6 digs and 2 blocks.  Senior Andy Cass (Wakefield, RI) stepped up in games 2 and 3, getting 7 kills with only 1 error on 8 total swings for a .750 hitting percentage, while sophomore setter Brendan McGourn (Southington, CT) led the offense with 27 assists for the Lasers.

Rivier will continue their GNAC play against Emmanuel College on Tuesday 3/2.  Game time for the conference match is 8:00pm in Boston.
