The Raiders sent freshman
Ford Coates (Raymond, NH) to the mound for the
second time this season. Coates took the loss, giving up seven hits
and eight earned runs in just 1 inning of work. Sophomore
Jeffrey Breslin (Westford, MA) tossed six innings
of relief.
Rivier scored two runs in the
top of the second on a bases loaded walk by Coates and an RBI
groundout by Gilbert Luis (Miami, FL) to cut the
lead to 8-2, but the Cougars added another 2 runs in the bottom of
the inning to extend their lead. Luis also
had a hit on the day along with freshman Artie Hoffman
(Medford, MA) who also had a hit.
the Cougars really broke it open
with a 7 run third inning to extend the lead to 17-2, then added 2
more in the fourth. The Raiders scored the game's next
five runs, two of which came on freshman Kyle
Bowser's (Newington, NH) first career homerun to
close the gap to 19-7.
In the top of the eight, the
Raiders scored on an RBI single by senior Ryan
O'Connor (Medford, MA).
O'Connor (2-for-4), Bowser
(2-for-5, three RBI) and Patrick Brooks (Milford, NH) (2-for3)
paced the Rivier offense, which scored a season-high nine
runs.
The Raiders will look for their
first win of the season on Sunday when they visit
Massachusetts-Maritime for a doubleheader.
