Providence, RI - The Raiders (10-1; 4-0) waited until the third
inning of Game 1 to get things started. Senior Brenna
Campell (Nashua, NH) got on base to start the
inning. Freshman Ashley Metivier (Hudson,
NH) followed with a single up the middle. Another single up the
middle by freshman Katie Bachinski (Northfield,
MA) plated Campbell for the first Raider run. A 2-RBI triple by
freshman Taylor Cournoyer (Mansfield, MA) and an
RBI groundout by freshman Marissa Mercier (N.
Smithfield, RI) produced all the runs the visitors would need.
Senior Alexa Feener (Franklin, NH) picked up her
first win of the season as she pitched 4 full innings of 2-hit ball
while striking out 8. The Blue and Gray scored three more times in
both the sixth and seventh innings to put the game out of reach.
Cournoyer led off the sixth with her first career homerun. Freshman
Michelle Hunt (Burlington, MA) had an RBI double
and junior Amanda Ryan (W. Bridgewater, MA) added
an RBI single. Another RBI by Cournoyer in the seventh followed by
an RBI single by senior Jess
Mellen (Rockland, MA) ended the scoring for Riv.
Senior Monica White (Augusta, ME) finished the
game and allowed just 1 hit while K'ing 6 in 3 innings of work.
Riv wasted little time setting the tone in Game 2 as freshman
Katie Bachinski (Northfield, MA) led off the game
with a walk. Senior Monica White (Augusta, ME)
followed with a base hit. A perfectly executed double steal set the
stage for an RBI sacrifice fly by freshman Taylor
Cournoyer (Mansfield, MA). An RBI single by senior
Jess Mellen (Rockland, MA) followed by a 2-RBI
single by sophomore Karen Waterman (Rutland, VT)
put the visitors up 4-0. The Raiders tacked on 5 more runs in the
fourth and finished things off with a 3-run fifth to invoke the
mercy rule. Consecutive walks by senior Brenna
Campbell (Nashua, NH) and freshman Ashley
Metivier (Hudson, NH) set the stage for RBI singles by
Bachinski and White. An error by the JWU pitcher loaded the bases
for junior Amanda Ryan (W. Bridgewater, MA) who
cleared them with a 3-RBI triple down the leftfield line. The duo
of Campbell and Metivier again started things off the next inning
with a single and walk, respectively. An RBI groundout by White
followed by a 2-RBI single from freshman Marissa
Mercier (N. Smithfield, RI) accounted for the final Raider
runs. Monica White picked up her third shutout,
and eighth win, by throwing 5 innings of 2-hit ball to go with 7
strikeouts.
The Raiders get a break in the action as they are off until
Friday afternoon. That is when they will travel to Boston, MA to
take on the Rams of Suffolk University. Game time is 3pm.
