Game 1: Rivier 6 Pine Manor 1
Game 2: Rivier 11 Pine Manor 4
Chestnut Hill, MA - The Raiders (12-1; 6-0) came out sluggish in
both games but eventually pulled away to rack up two more
conference wins. Senior Monica White (Augusta, ME)
laced a ball down the rightfield line for a 1-out triple in the
third inning. Freshman Taylor Cournoyer (Mansfield,
MA) brought her home for the first run of the game on a
single up the middle. Senior Jess Mellen (Rockland,
MA) produced a 1-out double in the very next inning and
was brought home on a groundout by junior Amanda Ryan (W.
Bridgewater, MA). Freshman Katie Bachinski
(Northfield, MA) followed suit with a 1-out triple of her
own while Monica White picked up the RBI. Taylor Cournoyer got a
2-out rally started by singling and was plated by a single from
freshman Mandy Thornton (Hanover, MA). Solo RBI's
by Cournoyer and Ryan plated Bachinski and White, who each got on
with base hits. This accounted for the 5-run cushion. Senior hurler
Monica White gave up a solo homerun in the bottom of the seventh
inning which was her only blemish of the day. She scattered 5 hits
while striking out 14.
It was Pine Manor who set the tone in Game 2 as they pushed
across four runs in the first two innings of play. Those were the
only runs they would score which allowed the Blue and Gray to chip
away at the lead. Freshman Taylor Cournoyer (Mansfield,
MA) roped a 1-out double in the fourth and was brought
home by an RBI single from freshman Marissa Mercier (N.
Smithfield, RI). The Raiders tied things up with a 3-run
fifth. Junior Amanda Ryan (W. Bridgewater, MA)
reached base on an error by the leftfielder. Senior Brenna
Campbell (Nashua, NH) walked and a sacrifice bunt from
freshman Ashley Metivier (Hudson, NH) advanced
runners to second and third. Freshman Katie Bachinski
(Northfield, MA) stepped in and cranked a 2-RBI double
over the centerfielder's head. Taylor Cournoyer followed with a
double of her own to send Bachinski across homeplate. Senior
Monica White (Augusta, ME) entered the circle in
the fifth inning with the game tied at 4. She shut the Gator
offense down by striking out another 3 batters. Amanda Ryan
deposited a 1-2 offering over the leftfield fence with the go-ahead
and eventual game-winning run. The Raiders broke it open in the
seventh as they scored six more times. Bachinski led off the inning
with a double. An RBI triple by White followed by an RBI single for
Cournoyer got things started. The highlight of the inning was the
grandslam homerun sent sailing over the centerfield fence by Brenna
Campbell. Senior Alexa Feener (Franklin, NH) was
superb in short relief as she threw 2 innings of no-hit ball while
striking out a batter.
