Rivier 6 Lasell 2
Rivier 3 Lasell 2
Newton, MA - The Raiders (14-1; 8-0) played their worst
defensive game of the season as they commited three errors in a
single inning. Good thing the Blue and Gray scored enough runs to
make those errors meaningless. Freshman Katie Bachinski
(Northfield, MA) got Riv on the scoreboard in the third
inning as she sent a towering homerun over the left-centerfield
fence. Freshman Marissa Mercier (N. Smithfield,
RI) led off the very next inning with a triple and was
brought home on a sacrfice fly by freshman Mandy Thornton
(Hanover, MA). The fourth inning defensively was a
disaster for the visitors as they allowed two unearned runs to
score on three errors. The sign of a good team, however, is how
they respond to adversity and the Raiders wasted no time in doing
just that. Freshman Ashley Metivier (Hudson, NH)
started things with a 1-out single through the left side. Bachinski
again stepped to the plate and launched another 4-bagger. Riv
pushed two unearned runs across homeplate in the seventh to account
for the final score. Bachinski reached on a fielder's choice while
senior Monica White (Augusta, ME) reached on an
error. Freshman Taylor Cournoyer (Mansfield, MA)
cranked a 2-out double that plated both runs. White picked up the
win as she allowed just 2 basehits to go with 7 K's.
Game 2 was a different story as it was the Lasers who struck
first. The flood gates opened a bit in the second inning with two
earned runs on 4 hits. Riv responded in spurts as they cut the lead
in half in the very next frame. It then took the visitors until the
top of the fifth inning to knot things up. Freshman Ashley
Metivier (Hudson, NH) led off the frame with a basehit. A
sacrifice bunt by senior Brenna Campbell (Nashua,
NH) and a single by freshman Katie Bachinski
(Northfield, MA) did the damage. Senior Monica
White (Augusta, ME) entered the game in the fifth inning
and pitched three scoreless innings of 2-hit ball to pick up her
12th win. The game appeared to be heading into extra innings as the
Raiders had two quick outs on offense to start the seventh. Campell
would have none of that as she singled up the middle to keep the
inning alive. Bachinski then did what she does best and cranked an
RBI triple over the right fielders head. Freshman Danielle
Magnant (Franklin, VT) was stellar in short relief as she
pitched two scoreless innings while striking out a batter.
The Raiders have a quick turnaround as they head back to the
diamond tomorrow afternoon. Riv will play host to conference foe
Saint Joseph College - CT. Game time is 1pm. The home team will
also host a Family Get Together after the double header for all the
family members and friends of the Raider Softball Program!
