Rivier 1 SJC-CT 0
Rivier 8 SJC-CT 0 (5 innings)
Nashua, NH - For the first time all season, the Raiders (16-1;
10-0) struggled to get hits. A small window of opportunity
presented itself to the Blue and Gray in the bottom of the sixth
inning and, like good teams do, they jumped right through it.
Freshman Katie Bachinski (Northfield, MA) sent a
1-out single up the middle. As Bachinski took off for second base
on a steal attempt, senior Monica White (Augusta,
ME) tapped one back to the pitcher. Bachinski never
hesitated and rounded second base, heading for third. The Blue Jays
return throw from the first baseman was off line which allowed
Katie to score the game-winning run. Freshman Taylor
Cournoyer (3 for 3) and senior Jess
Mellen (1 for 2) were the only other players with hits.
Monica White remains a perfect 13-0 on the season as she hurled a
complete game 1-hitter. She also mowed down 15 SJC batters.
Riv jumped all over the visitors in Game 2 as they plated four
runs in the first frame and four more in the fourth inning to
invoke the mercy rule. Freshman Taylor Cournoyer
(Mansfield, MA) immediately set the tone with a single up
the middle. A misplay by centerfield allowed Cournoyer to advance
into scoring position. Freshman Katie Bachinski
(Northfield, MA) switched places with Cournoyer as she
slammed one over the centerfielders head. Two passed balls allowed
Bachinski to score. Two singles by freshmen Mandy Thornton
(Hanover, MA) and Marissa Mercier (N. Smithfield,
RI), two base on balls by seniors Monica White
(Augusta, ME) and Brenna Campbell (Nashua,
NH) and a Blue Jay error produced the other two runs.
Bachinski doubled again to lead off the fourth. RBI singles by
White, Mercier and senior Jess Mellen (Rockland,
MA) along with a run-scoring sacrifice fly by Thornton put
the game out of reach. Freshman Danielle Magnant (Franklin,
VT) improved to 2-0 on the season as she pitched 3
scoreless innings. Senior Alexa Feener (Franklin,
NH) came in and did her job as she picked up a strikeout
in 1 inning of work. White finished the game off in style as she
pitched the final inning and added two more K's to her
conference-leading totals.
The Raiders are off for Easter Sunday but are back in action on
Monday afternoon. Riv travels to Boston, MA for a conference
showdown against the Rams of Suffolk University. First pitch - 2pm.
