Boston, MA - The Raiders (18-1; 12-0) have won 17 in a row and
continue to get outstanding pitching from Monica White
(Augusta, ME). The senior hurled 5 innings of no-hit ball
as she retired the side in order in each of the first 5 frames. The
visitors made it more difficult than necessary as they waited until
the sixth inning to cross homeplate. Freshman Taylor
Cournoyer (Mansfield, MA) led things off with a single.
Freshman Mandy Thornton (Hanover, MA) followed
with a single of her own. Senior Jess Mellen (Rockland,
MA) stepped to the plate and launched an RBI double to
centerfield. Junior Amanda Ryan (W. Bridgewater,
MA) followed with a 2-run basehit. Senior Monica
White (Augusta, ME) then cranked her second homerun of the
season over the centerfielder's head. Mellen scored again in the
seventh as she singled, stole second and was brought home on an RBI
single by White.
Game 2 - Senior Monica White (Augusta, ME)
improved to 15-0 on the season as she pitched 2.1 innings while
again yielding no hits and adding 4 more strikeouts. Senior
Alexa Feener (Franklin, NH) pitched the final 2
innings. She did her job as she allowed 1 basehit to go with 3 K's.
Offensively, it was the returning players who did most of the
damage. Sophomore Karen Waterman (Rutland, VT) led
the way with a 3-hit performance. Junior Amanda Ryan (W.
Bridgewater, MA) had 2 hits to go with 3 RBI. Seniors
Brenna Campbell (Nashua, NH) and Jess
Mellen (Rockland, MA) each tallied 2 hits, 2 RBI and a
stolen base. Freshman Mandy Thornton (Hanover, MA)
also came up big as she had a double and 3 RBI.
The Blue and Gray enjoy a few days off as they do not play again
until Friday afternoon. Riv will welcome the Mustangs of Mt. Ida
College to Nashua for a 4pm doubleheader.
