Rivier Takes Down Endicott; Seniors Prevail

Nashua, NH - No-11 Rivier College (26-8 overall; 11-1 GNAC) defeated No-9 Endicott College 3-1 to win their last regular season home match of the year in a big way.  The refocused and re-energized Raiders put forth their best effort and came away with one of their best played matches all season.  The Big RIV Machine electrified The Muldoon with a pounding offense (.385 hitting percentage), an intimidating block (14.5 blocks), and a scrappy defense (44 digs).  RIV easily handled the first two sets; not allowing EC to reach 20 points in either set.  The Blue and White hit a little bit of a speed bump in set 3 falling behind 24-16 before making a late set charge to tie the match 27-27 then eventually take the lead at 29-27 before falling in extra points 31-33.  Set 4 was all RIV once again holding their opponent to under 20 points to close the match.

Seniors Zach Hansen, Matt Ferreira, and Kyle O'Neill led the way for Rivier.  Hansen was the catalyst registering a double double with 53 assists and a season high 16 digs while putting back 6 blocks.  The 6'1 senior setter also served lights out with 2 ace serves and a team high 32 service attempts in the match.  Matt Ferreira was huge at the net with 13 kills and a .429 hitting percentage to go with 4 stuffed Gull attacks while Kyle O'Neill showed good ball control on receive and scooped up 6 digs.  Freshman Taylor Lindner once again showed why they call him "Bear" putting together a man-size performance in the middle with 12 kills on just 19 attempts for a .526 hitting percentage all while rejecting a team high 8 blocks.  Juniors Jared Andreozzi and John Furka had big contributions with 21 kills and 9 kills respectively while combining for 6 blocks.  Andreozzi also served up a team high 4 aces.  Drew Corwin and Steve Visentin played steady all the way around with good passing and defense along with timely hitting.  Steve Wood, Chris Convertito, Andrew Paine, and Alex Xenidis all made significant contributions off the bench to round off the team effort.
