Raiders Split on Opening Day

Game 1: Rivier 4       Mt. St. Mary 0
Game 2: Rivier 1      Susquehanna 17

Orlando, FL - Game 1 started in picture-perfect fashion as the Raiders scored in the top of the 1st inning on an RBI double by freshman Taylor Cournoyer (Mansfield, MA). Riv added 3 single runs in three of the next four innings. Solo homeruns by sophomore Karen Waterman (Rutland, VT) and freshman Marissa Mercier (N. Smithfield, RI) sandwiched an RBI fielder's choice by senior Brenna Campbell (Nashua, NH). The four runs were more than enough support for hurler Monica White (Augusta, ME) who was simply dominant. The senior threw a 1-hit shutout while striking out 9 of the first 10 batters she faced (14 overall). White, Waterman and freshman Katie Bachinski (Northfield, MA) led the team with 2 hits apiece.

Game 2 was a struggle from the opening pitch. Susquehanna scored single runs in three of the first four innings after leadoff walks. The flood gates opened in the final two frames as the Crusaders added 10 more runs. Monica White added 2 more singles and Brenna Campbell added a double and run scored. Senior Alexa Feener (Franklin, NH) took the loss as she gave up 17 earned runs on 14 hits while yielding 11 walks in 6 innings of work.
