Game 1: Rivier 5

Game 2: Rivier 9 Penn State Hazleton

Orlando, FL - Penn State drew first blood as they plated their
first and only run of the day in the top of the 3rd inning off a
2-out RBI double. The Raiders wasted no time in responding after
freshman Katie Bachinski
(Northfield, MA) was hit by a pitch, stole second base and scored
on an RBI single by freshman Marissa Mercier (N.
Smithfield, RI). The Blue and Gray led off the next inning with
another hit by pitch. After an outfield error by Penn State and a
fielder's choice allowed the Raiders to load the bases, freshman
Taylor Cournoyer (Mansfield, MA) came up to the
plate and blasted a 2-RBI double down the left field line. Senior
Brenna Campbell (Nashua, NH) followed that up with
an RBI groundout. Another RBI groundout by freshman Mandy
Thornton (Hanover, MA) in the 5th inning provided plenty
of support for their senior hurler. Monica White
(Augusta, ME) was again superb as she allowed just 1 earned run to
go with 12 K's.
The Raiders (3-1; 0-0) jumped all over the Lions in Game 2 as
they scored in each of the first four innings. The freshmen led the
way for Riv. Katie Bachinski (Northfield, MA)
finished the game 3 for 5 with 4 RBI while classmate Taylor
Cournoyer (Mansfield, MA) had 4 hits with a run scored.
Freshman Danielle Magnant (Franklin, VT) got her
first start on the mound, and her first win, as she threw 3 innings
of hitless ball while striking out 4 batters. Senior Monica
White (Augusta, ME) came on in relief and was just as good
as she was in Game 1. She, too, did not allow a hit while racking
up 8 more K's. Senior Jess Mellen
was outstanding in centerfield as well as adding 2 hits to the
team's 11-hit barrage.
Riv is off to see Mickey tomorrow and will be back on the
diamond for another double-header on Tuesday morning. The Raiders
will take on Medaille College starting at 10am.
