Nashua, NH - The Raiders (22-1; 16-0) did their best to battle
through some fatigue and really push through for each other. The
home team struck early as a 3-run homer by freshman Marissa
Mercier (N. Smithfield, RI) got things started in the
second inning. A single run in the fourth followed by four more in
the sixth was more than enough run support. The sixth inning was
highlighted by a 2-run triple from freshman Taylor
Cournoyer (Mansfield, MA) followed by RBI singles by
freshman Mandy Thornton (Hanover, MA) and junior
Amanda Ryan (W. Bridgewater, MA). Senior
Monica White (Augusta, ME) picked up win #17 as
she gave up just 2 hits while striking out 15.
Game 2 - The Blue and Gray scored in five of the six frames but
the Saints did a good job of keeping things close. Freshman
Taylor Cournoyer (Mansfield, MA) got on with a
1-out single in the opening frame. Freshman Mandy Thornton
(Hanover, MA) followed suit with a single of her own.
Senior Monica White (Augusta, ME) picked up the
RBI with a single up the middle. Emmanuel tied things up in the top
of the second with a single, a walk and a run scoring base hit. Riv
jumped right back on top with a solo shot over the leftfield fence
by freshman Marissa Mercier (N. Smithfield, RI). A
run scoring groundout in the fourth by freshman Katie
Bachinski (Northfield, MA) pushed the lead to 2 runs. The
Saints refused to go away as they got a leadoff hit in the very
next frame followed by a sacrifice bunt and a seeing-eye single to
cut the lead in half. Thornton led off the fifth inning with a
double. After being sacrificed over to third base, pinch runner
Danielle Magnant (Franklin, VT), scored on a wild
pitch. Three more Raider runs extended the lead yet again and would
be all they needed to take the sweep. Magnant got the start and
gave up 1 earned run in 2 innings of work. Senior Brenna
Campbell (Nashua, NH) pitched a 1-2-3 inning of relief.
Senior Monica White (Augusta, ME) picked up her
second win of the day as she went 4 innings. She gave up 1 earned
run on 5 hits while striking out an additional 7 batters.
The Raiders have a makeup game scheduled for Wednesday nights
under the lights as they take on conference foe Mount Ida College.
First pitch-6pm.
