Rivier 3 Mt Ida 1
Rivier 10 Mt Ida 2 (5 innings)
Nashua, NH - The Raiders (24-1; 18-0) came out a bit sluggish in
Game 1. A single and an RBI triple by the visitors woke Riv up real
quick. Senior Monica White (Augusta, ME)settled in
nicely after the first inning blemish and allowed just 3 base hits
for the remainder of the game. Senior Brenna Campbell
(Nashua, NH) tied things up in the bottom of the third
inning as she led things off with a double. Freshman Taylor
Cournoyer (Mansfield, MA) brought Campbell home with a
double of her own. The Blue and Gray pushed across two more runs in
the fifth to put things away. Sophomore Karen Waterman
(Rutland, VT) and freshman Katie Bachinski
(Northfield, MA) each singled. Taylor Cournoyer stepped to
the plate and sent a towering shot into the right-center field gap
for a 2-run stand-up triple.
Game 2 - It was the Mustangs who again struck first. Two
singles, a double and a triple put the home team in a quick 2-0
hole. Those would be the only runs the visitors would score as Riv
exploded for five runs in the second inning, four more in the
fourth and the decisive tenth run in the fifth. RBI singles by
sophomore Karen Waterman (Rutland, VT), junior
Amanda Ryan (W. Bridgewater, MA), seniors
Brenna Campbell (Nashua, NH) and Monica
White (Augusta, ME)as well as a run scoring ground out by
freshman Taylor Cournoyer (Mansfield, MA) got the
Raiders back on top in the second inning. The fourth saw RBI's by
freshmen Mandy Thornton (Hanover, MA) and
Marissa Mercier (N. Smithfield, RI) and another
run scoring single by Waterman to go with 2 errors. Riv was able to
invoke the mercy rule in the fifth when senior Jess Mellen
(Rockland, MA) hit a scorcher up the middle with 2 outs
and the bases loaded. Senior Monica White picked up her 20th win of
the season as she tossed 3 innings of no-hit ball. She K'd 10
batters in 10 total innings pitched on the evening. Sophomore
Danielle Magnant (Franklin, VT)pitched a 1-2-3
inning of short relief and made some highlight-reel catches in left
field.
The Raiders head back to the diamond on Friday afternoon. It
will be the "Battle of the Unbeatens" as we take on Saint Joseph's
College-ME who is also 18-0 in conference play. The winner of this
twin bill will likely host the GNAC Tournament.
