PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Plymouth State University baseball
team recorded its first victory of the season Friday afternoon,
defeating Rivier College, 24-5, in the home opener at Panther Park.
The Panthers scored 24 run on 17 hits and five Rivier errors.
Sophomore Joe Eramo (Shirley, Mass.) led the way with three hits,
including a pair of doubles, along with four runs batted in and
four runs scored. Classmate Marcus Joyce (Scituate, Mass.) also
collected three hits off the Panther bench, including a double and
an RBI. PSU improves to 1-11 on the season while Rivier falls to
2-10.
Junior left-hander John Andersch (Concord, N.H.) worked six
shutout innings to earn the victory (1-2) for PSU, scattering five
hits and four walks while striking out nine.
Senior Ryan O'Connor (Medford, Mass.) led the
Raiders with two hits, including a double. Freshmen Artie
Hoffman (Malden, Mass.) and Gilberto Luis (Miami,
Fla.) delivered two-run singles in Rivier's four-run
eighth inning, which broke up the shutout.
Plymouth State scored at least one run in every inning, plating
one in the first, two in the second and third and putting the game
away with seven runs in the fourth inning.
Both teams are right back on the diamond with conference
doubleheaders on Saturday at 12 noon as PSU travels to the
University of Massachusetts Dartmouth for the Little East
Conference opener and Rivier visits Emerson College for a Great
Northeast Athletic Conference pair.
