Chicopee, Mass. - Elms College freshman outside hitter Stephen
Cameron (Newington, Conn.) smashed a team-high 10 kills, but Rivier
College's senior middle hitter Matt Ferreira (North
Providence, R.I.) tallied 11 kills and hit .526 to propel
the Raiders to a 3-0 (11-30, 19-30, 17-30) sweep of the Blazers
Tuesday night's non-conference men's volleyball match at Picknelly
Arena.
With the loss, Elms concludes the 2009-10 season with a 5-25
record, while Rivier improves to 29-8 overall.
Elms junior setter Mike Ryan (Ludlow, Mass.) tallied 21 assists,
while sophomores Mike Kleckner (Bethlehem, Pa.) and Yonalvy Acosta
(Holyoke, Mass.) downed five kills each.
Both Cameron and Kleckner each totaled seven digs in the losing
effort.
Junior outside hitter Steve Wood (Spencerport,
N.Y.), sophomore outside hitter Andrew Paine
(Quincy, Mass.), and sophomore middle hitter Tajh
Stokes (Salem, N.H.) all downed six kills on the day for
the Raiders. Freshman setter Jamison Chue (Newton,
Mass.) dished out a match-best 37 assists in the victory.
Sophomore Drew Corwin (Sudbury, Mass.) lead
Rivier with nine digs, followed by Chue's eight, and seven from
senior libero Kyle O'Neill (Long Beach, N.Y.).
Ferreira added three service aces to help pace the Raiders'
victory.
