New Haven, CT - Freshman goalkeeper Christina Dineson (Milford,
CT) made two saves on a Penalty Kick in the 75th minute to preserve
a 3-2 Lady Falcons victory over GNAC opponent Rivier College. The
3-2 win marks the longest winning streak in the seven year history
of the program at five straight.
Rivier College found the back of the net first as freshman
forward Kaitlyn Souza (Wilmington, MA) finished a
cross from freshman midfielder Morgan Greene (Acworth,
NH) in the 14th minute to take a 1-0 lead. The Lady
Falcons responded when sophomore forward Danielle Figueroa
(Bridgeport, CT) scored an unassisted goal in the 20th minute to
tie the game 1-1. Rivier College saw Greene finish a cross from
freshman midfielder Christina Parent (Loudon, NH)
to take a 2-1 lead into halftime.
Albertus soared back into the game when junior midfielder
Brittney Geremia (Northford, CT) tied the game 2-2 in the 62nd
minute of play. Figueroa would score her second goal of the
afternoon making the score 3-2 as Geremia assisted her in the 70th
minute to give Albertus the 3-2 lead. A foul in the box with just
15 minutes remaining in the second half threatened to spoil the day
for the Lady Falcons. Souza would take the penalty kick as Dineson
dug in attempting to save the afternoon. Dineson made a spectacular
diving save as she punched the ball in the upper 90 causing it to
bounce off the post and across to the other side of the goal.
Rivier pounced on the rebound opportunity until Dineson somehow
managed to reach her feet and make a second diving save on the
play. Rivier managed little offense after the penalty kick as
Albertus would hold on to win it's record setting fifth straight
game.
Dineson recorded 5 saves in the win while giving up 2 goals,
while her counterpart, Riviers Christine Surber (Langdon,
NH), made 11 saves and gave up 3 goals in the loss.
The Raiders, who fall to 2-3 on the season, will host Becker
College on Sunday, September 19th at 1:00 PM in Nashua, NH.
