Nashua, NH – The Castleton State College Spartans defeated
the Rivier College Raiders with ease today in women's field hockey
action by a score of 12-1. The Spartans pushed the tempo early as
the Raiders had to play the entire game a man down and with no
subs. Just 4:28 into the game Castleton's Kealy Chipman (bellows
Falls, VT) put the visiting team on the board, taking a pass from
teammate Courtney Nolan (Spring Lake Heights, NJ) and finding the
back of the box. Nolan followed up less than 30 seconds later with
a goal of her own, assisted by Sarah Flore (Springfield, VT), for a
2-0 lead and what would end up being the game winner.
Corinne Healy (2), Rachel Preusser, Alisha Robert (2), Madyson
Martin, Gabrielle Sikora (2), Flore and Stephanie Paproski all
scored goals for the Spartans in the 12-1 rout of the Raiders. The
only Raider Goal came with just 3 seconds left to play in the game
when sophomore Ashley Ruocco (East Kingston, NH)
took a pass from freshman Hilary Bouchard (Wells,
ME) to find the back of the net.
Spartans goalkeeper Siobhan Whittemore (Springfield, VT) got the
win, playing just the first half and making 5 saves, allowing no
goals. Junior Bridget Dusha (Greenwich, NY) played the entire
second half in goal for the Spartans, allowing 1 goal and making 1
save. Raiders goalkeeper Nicole Hauswirth
(Cranston, RI) played all 70 minutes, taking the loss after
allowing 12 goals and recording 11 saves.
The Raiders will travel to Regis College on Tuesday, Sept. 28th
for a 4:00 PM game, meanwhile Castleton will play on the same day
at Union College (NY) at 7:00 PM.
